The One Thing that can Really Change a Teenage Girls Life.

photos from Model Makeover Photoshoot Parties

Do you remember when she was first born and you had that thought... 'I wish she would stay like this! So cute and tiny!'  Well, somehow suddenly she is a teenager 14 going on 21. Speeding down the road to adulthood and there is nothing you can do to slow her down.

Occasionally, when you look at her you can see yourself at her age, yet ironically she spends so much time rolling her eyes  and saying 'You just  don't understand me.'

It tries your patience when  your new cardigan has been "borrowed" and you watch it disappear  into the teenage cave that she calls her room and you resign yourself  you will might well never see it again.   Along with that pair of  shoes and your lipstick that seems to have mysteriously disappeared.

Despite all those worries and frustrations, it is hard for not to be incredibly proud of your daughter as you watch her and her friends starting to blossom into beautiful and  captivating young women.

Most parents struggle to keep up with everything going on in their young lives, with the new lingo, the crushes on boys and all the gossip at school.  Life is so different from when we were young, Teenagers today spend their lives on their phones.

The effect of the media's constant search for perfection and celebrity must definitely have  an effect on their development. Looking at the statistics around eating disorders the links to body image makes pretty uncomfortable reading. When you look at your daughter you can only hope you have done enough to build up her confidence.

Confidence that there is nothing wrong with their bodies and they are normal.

Confidence that models and celebrities don't really look like their polished and overly artworked images  that bombard us in the media.

Confidence that they realise there is no need to compare themselves to those plastic standards we see every day in the media or to their friends.

I have been photographing young people for years and have seen many of young girls come to my studio for a photoshoot , and they nearly all wish they were prettier, slimmer or had bigger or smaller busts, different ears, different noses...Some of these girls had terrible body image issues, some had been badly bullied.

While a photoshoot won't totally change self perception overnight it does begin to start that process of challenging these negative body image issues.

Seeing yourself looking amazing in professional magazine quality photos  can be an incredible confidence boost.

In that moment, when your teenage daughter sees her photographs for the first time, she might just see a glimpse of what we see... Not all their flaws, but instead a radiant beautiful young woman.

So although it won't stop her nicking your clothes or make her start to tidy her room, a photoshoot and the positive reinforcement it can bring could well build her confidence, which in turn will hopefully help her  maintain a positive mental attitude, to manage her fears and to manage life's challenges with more certainly.
